Have you been Saved!? If not, you better hurry up.
The movie, Saved!, is a fabulous and relevent - actually, it's "awesome"- depiction of teenage life in Christian high school. Being a MEI alumni, I found myself identifying completely with the film content. Sure, it is a bit over the top, but life in high school often is.
"I've been born-again my whole life." This opening line ensured that the experience ahead would be a good one.
Throughout the film, classic Christian jargon reared its ugly head: "God led me to do it", "Put on your armor", and "You're back-slidden!". The writing was so accurate on the culture of Christian.
Two highlights -
the Emmanuel shooting range t-shirts which bore the slogan "An eye for an eye". Hahaha...
and
the contemporary songs changed to be spiritual songs, rather than secular ones.
In the end, the movie captured a great mix of coming-of-age teen angst, spiritual curiousity,
high school drama - popular and not, romance, and a good, healthy twist of culture schlock. It reminded me that rules are the bane of religion, particularly when being authentic is what really matters.

I haven't seen the movie as of yet but I am curious. I'll echo your closing comment though "being authentic is what really counts." Unfortunately, we live in a world of masks and all of us are scared to reveal who we really are. I think we only have a voice when we are honest with who we are to those around us. Perhaps that is what postmodern culture has at its heart - a cry for honesty & authenticity in faith.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Joan of Arcadia? I think it is a much more accurate portrayal of the faith journey & responding to the nudgings of God. If you haven't seen the show - you need to!

I haven't watched Joan of Arcadia. I never knew I was missing something because no one told me, until now! Thanks for the tip, and I'll keep my eye out for it.
